Gisele Bundchen, ‘the most famous Brazilian since Pele’, will be the showstopper in the Cup finale.
“The Body”, Alexander McQueen dubbed her when, Giselle Bundchen strode on to the catwalk in McQueen’s 1998 spring show – and stole the show. It was almost five years to the day since the German-Brazilian, one of five sisters, had completed a modeling course with siblings Patricia and Gabriela.
Gisele was in Sao Paulo as part of a school field trip when Elite, the super-agency of the modeling world, spotted her, groomed her, and entered her in the Elite Look of the Year contest. She placed second and went on to the Elite Model Look world contest in Spain, where she placed fourth. Under the aegis of the agency, she moved to Sao Paulo to begin a career in modeling. She was 14.
